The Importance of Chaos and Variation for Athletes

It is a well-known fact that workouts which stay the same day after day cause the body to get used to the workouts thereby reducing their effectiveness.  Another way to say it is that you reach a training "plateau" and thus after a while do not challenge your body.

In the same vein, Supplementation, while becoming more and more necessary, also needs variation.  The body has a remarkable ability to adapt to situations, stimulii, and foods you put in it.  That said, it is my belief that if you are taking the same dosage of supplements day after day, you are really only "plateauing" nutritionally.

For situations where there is truly a deficiency in a certain class of minerals or a particular vitamin in the body, it is necessary to administer a consistent dosage of supplements (or equivalent foods) until such time that the deficiency is known to be addressed.  Thereafter, the role of chaos should play an important part in both training regimens and supplementation.  The body has to be challenged lest it become accustomed and less able to adapt in the long run.
